One night he held the gun, finger nowhere near the trigger, and listened to the wind scrape across the snow, thinkin about all the choices people make when they’re scared. In the mornin he hung it back up, crooked, and went outside to check the tree. It was still there, black against the pale sky, and for the first time in months he felt somthing like peace, small but real.
