The Polka-Dot Sea Baron art print
story of The Polka-Dot Sea Baron art print:
They called him Baron Brine, even though he never owned land and couldn’t stand the taste of tea. He came ashore once a decade, dressed in a borrowed polka-dot coat and a stiff white ruff, trying his best to look like a proper nobleman while his crown of shell and spikes betrayed him. Folks in the port town pretended not to stare at his too-wide eyes, but everybody did, even the priest. The Baron would walk straight to the old market and buy trinkets no one else wanted: cracked compasses, tarnished buttons, bent rings, things with stories stuck inside them. He said the sea collects memories the way nets collect fish, and he was there to trade back what the waves had stolen. That night, under the pink moon, he stood by the tide line and whispered each owner’s name so the objects would remember where to go. By morning he was gone again, leaving only a few wet footprints and the uneasy feeling that the ocean had been watching all along.
