The Moth-Cat Watcher art print
story of The Moth-Cat Watcher art print:
They called it a cat, but the old painter in the top-floor studio swore it was something that only pretends to be one. The creature showed up after a late summer storm, sitting perfectly still in the doorway like it had been waiting for years, its face calm and watchful while a pair of moth-wings folded down its chest like a worn-out cloak. Every time the painter tried to shoo it away, the room got colder and the light got weird, as if the walls were listening. So he drew it instead, quick lines first, then the stains and bruised colors that kept appearing on the paper like memories leaking through. He said the spots on its wing were places it had been, little burnt maps of nights it survived, and if you stared too long you could almost hear rain tapping the window again. When the painting was finished the creature was gone, but the studio still feels occupied, like it left a guard behind.
