Every night he stood behind it, facing the dark as if it might answer back, while two pale moths circled him like drifting thoughts that couldnt land. People said he used to be a teacher, the kind who stayed late to erase the board twice, but after the factory closed he stopped speaking and began collecting things the street forgot: torn envelopes, twine, brittle leaves. He built himself a body from them, hoping the missing parts would come back if he looked patient enough. The little bare branches beside him are the only witnesses, thin as whispers, and when the moths finally hover near his shoulder it feels like a lesson ending softly, with no applause, just the gentle understanding that some goodbyes take years to say.
