He said he found them behind the empty train yard where nobody goes, bent over but not broken, and he couldnt stand the way the wind kept trying to lay them down. So he brought them home to lean in peace, to rest without apologizing. In the evening the room smelled faintly of rain and dust, and the stems arched like tired backs, holding up their last color while the house listened, quiet as a held breath.
