The air smelled damp and sweet, and the grass kept snagging his boots, like it didnt want him to go. Then the two lights showed up—one high, steady as a watching eye, and one low, burning orange like a campfire that forgot it was a fire. People said the valley sometimes held onto lost signals, radio towers and meteors and prayers, all tangled together, but he knew better: it was the spot where his brother used to wait, years ago, with a flashlight and a dare. He stood there a long time, letting the glow stain his hands, thinking how some goodbyes dont end, they just drift farther away until they look like stars.
